Astronomy Special Event: See a Partial Lunar Eclipse and Learn How and Why They Happen

Thursday,  August. 27th (pm) – Friday, August 28th (am)

8:00 pm – 2:00 am

Location:  Park Lot F

🔭

On August 27th at 8:00 pm, please join our volunteer BNA astronomer, Tom Harper, as we watch a partial Lunar Eclipse.

    • 8:30 pm 11:15 pm  – the Moon will slowly darken as it is 96% covered by the Earth’s shadow.
    • 11:15 pm – 3:34 am – the Moon will slowly brighten as it passes behind the Earth then begins to come out of the shadow finishing at 2:00 am.

We will have experts here with telescopes and binoculars so you can see and learn about the eclipse!   Come prepared for a fun and interesting event that we don’t get to see very often. More information on the eclipse: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2026-august-28

This takes place at the Bong State Recreational Area (RBSRA) parking lot F. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QWhf22Tif8eRDojU7

A current state park sticker for each vehicle is required and carpooling is encouraged.

Notes:

To enable better viewing of the night sky we ask that all white lights be turned off and any other forms of light including cell phones be kept to a minimum and use dark mode when possible.

Please note that this event is outside and weather dependent. Dress for possible cooler temperatures with multiple layers of clothing as temperatures can drop quickly at night. This event may be cancelled because of inclement weather which includes rain, significant cloud cover, or extreme temperatures.
