DESCRIPTION:Shakespeare in the Park – Hamlet \nPerformance – 7:00 pm \nJoin us for opening night of the Summit Players free\, stripped down fast-paced production of Hamlet! \nHamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies. This fun and unique performance is presented with six actors in under 80 minutes! \nBring the whole family and enjoy our annual Shakespeare in the Park with the Summit Players!  Amphitheater seating fills up quickly so be sure to bring your own lawn chair. \nThe performance (at 7:00 p.m.) and workshop (at 5:30 p.m.) are offered free of charge to all visitors. \n \nThe Story: \nWith his father’s recent death still looming in his mind\, Hamlet\, the Prince of Denmark grapples with the truth of his father’s death\, his mother’s betrayal and his uncle’s role in all of it. Relationships are torn apart. Deceit will be revealed. DESCRIPTION:Courtesy Tom Harper\n  \nAstronomy Monthly Event:  Night Sky at Bong!!! \nSaturday\, June 20th \n9:00 – 11:00 pm \nCome out to Bong where the skies are dark and the night sky will fill you with awe and wonder.  See planets\, stars\, clusters\, maybe even a galaxy. \nPhoto Courtesy Tom Harper\n  \nLearn about the night sky\, from our BNA volunteer astronomer\, Tom Harper – what’s there and how it affects us. \nHear the stories of our ancestors that saw these tiny lights in the sky and told stories of how they came to be there. \n \nOur astronomers will be on hand with telescopes and binoculars to show these wonders and answer questions. If you have a telescope bring it along. We can help with questions as time allows. \nThis event happens monthly on the Saturday nearest the first quarter Moon as the weather allows at the Richard Bong State Recreational Area (RBSRA) parking lot F. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QWhf22Tif8eRDojU7 \nA current state park sticker for each vehicle is required and carpooling is encouraged. \nNotes: \n\nTo enable better viewing of the night sky we ask that all white lights be turned off and any other forms of light including cell phones be kept to a minimum and use dark mode when possible.\nPlease note that this event is outside and weather dependent. Dress for cooler temperatures with multiple layers of clothing for warmth as temperatures drop quickly at night. DESCRIPTION:June Program:  Are There Bats at Bong??? \nSaturday\, June 27th \nTime: 8:45 – 9:45 PM  \nLocation:  Sunrise Campground play area \n  \nJoin our BNA Volunteer and Wisconsin DNR Bat Ambassador\, John Davies\, as we discover that there are\, indeed\, bats at Bong! \nShortly after sundown meet at the Sunrise Campground play area for a short introduction to bats (the mammal) in Wisconsin. \nThen we will walk up to a bat house and listen for bats flying by\, using special ultrasonic microphones. \n\n\n\nWe will compare the type and frequency of bats that we “hear” tonight with those from the May hike.  Will there be more species of bats and a higher number heard??\n\n\n\n \nPlease note that we will be walking on the park camp ground roads after sundown. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by adults and everyone should wear bright clothing. \nNote:  This event is weather dependent: rain=no presentation. \n  \nThe event is open to the general public but to enter the park you must purchase a state park entrance pass/sticker. \n

DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: Ryan Meisel Website\n  \n  \nConcert in the Park: Spiritual Currents by Ryan Meisel!!! \nSaturday\, July 18th \n\nPlease join us for a magical evening with Ryan Meisel as he continues his 2026 Wisconsin state park tour at Richard Bong State Recreation Area (RBSRA.) \nMusic and storytelling in a relaxed setting creates an enjoyable experience for all. Ryan Meisel’s Spiritual Currents blends Indigenous world music with his background in jazz. It honors his spiritual connection to nature and cultures from around the world. \n \nIn addition to performing original music by world renown traditional flute artists\, Ryan will perform music from his recording\, “Stone Songs\, Wooden Voices & Water Dances\,” which will also be featuring new instruments. \nRyan performs Native American flutes\, saxophones\, and indigenous woodwinds (East Indian Bansuri\, Lithuanian Skuduciai & Birbyne\, Irish flutes & whistles\, Slovakian Fujara\, and Andean Pan Pipes). \n\nThe concert will be held in the Bong amphitheater\, followed by a drum workshop for young and old. Consider bringing a folding lawn chair in case there is a large attendance. \nFunding for this performance is provided by the Bong Naturalist Association. \nAttendance is free\, but a Wisconsin State Park annual sticker or daily pass is required. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:July Program:  Are There Bats at Bong??? \nSaturday\, July 25th \nTime: 8:32 – 9:32 PM  \nLocation:  Sunrise Campground play area \n  \nJoin our BNA Volunteer and Wisconsin DNR Bat Ambassador\, John Davies\, as we discover that there are\, indeed\, bats at Bong! \nShortly after sundown meet at the Sunrise Campground play area for a short introduction to bats (the mammal) in Wisconsin. \nThen we will walk up to a bat house and listen for bats flying by\, using special ultrasonic microphones. \n\nWe will compare the type and frequency of bats that we “hear” tonight with those from the May and June hikes.  Will there be more species of bats and a higher number heard??\n\n \nPlease note that we will be walking on the park camp ground roads after sundown. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by adults and everyone should wear bright clothing. \nNote:  This event is weather dependent: rain=no presentation. \n  \nThe event is open to the general public but to enter the park you must purchase a state park entrance pass/sticker. \n

DESCRIPTION:Knee High Naturalist – October Program:  Bats and Spiders!!! \nThursday\,  October 8th \n10:00 – 11:30 am \nEach month the BNA offers a program for 3 to 5 year old Knee High Naturalists.  Enjoy a morning of child-centered nature exploration and\, in October\, learn all bats and spiders!  Enjoy a story\, craft and hike with your Knee High Naturalist! \nMeet at Shelter 1.  If you have a large group\, varied ages or any special circumstances\, then please email the BNA at bongnaturalistassociation@gmail.com so that we can prepare to accommodate your group. \nPrograms are free\, but you need a Wisconsin State Park admission sticker or pay the daily park entrance fee. \nBNA’s Knee High Naturalist is a recurring program for 3 to 5-year-olds and a grown-up in their life. Siblings are welcome.  Our goal is to provide environmental education through stories\, crafts\, hiking and playing outdoors. \n\nWe always plan to be outside – so dress accordingly – but in the event of bad weather\, the Knee High Naturalist Program will be held in the Visitor Center.\nOur program will always occur\, but sometimes the topic will change due to weather issues.\n\nJust a reminder that all events require a Wisconsin State Park entrance sticker or daily entrance fee. \n
