SUMMARY:Astronomy Special Event: See a Partial Lunar Eclipse and Learn How and Why They Happen
DESCRIPTION:Photo Courtesy of Tom Harper\n  \nAstronomy Special Event: See a Partial Lunar Eclipse and Learn How and Why They Happen \nThursday\,  August. 27th  \n 8:00 – 11:30 pm \nLocation:  Park Lot F \n  \n \n  \nOn August 27th at 8:00 pm\, please join our volunteer BNA astronomer and our newly established BNA Astronomy Club members as we watch a partial Lunar Eclipse. \n\n\n\n8:30 pm – 11:15 pm:  the Moon will slowly darken as it is 96% covered by the Earth’s shadow.\n11:15 pm +:  the Moon will slowly brighten as it passes behind the Earth then begins to come out of the shadow.  Note that the BNA Astronomy event ends at 11:30 pm.\n\n\n\nPhoto Courtesy Tom Harper\nIn addition to BNA astronomers\, we are pleased to welcome experts from the Heide Observatory at Hawthorn Hollow for this special event.  The Heide Observatory group will also be bringing materials to show the moon phases and how things orbit. \nOur experts will be here with telescopes and binoculars so you can see and learn about the eclipse!   Come prepared for a fun and interesting event that we don’t get to see very often. More information on the eclipse: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2026-august-28 \nThis takes place at the Bong State Recreational Area (RBSRA) parking lot F. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QWhf22Tif8eRDojU7 \nA current state park sticker for each vehicle is required and carpooling is encouraged. \n  \n  \nNotes: \nTo enable better viewing of the night sky we ask that all white lights be turned off and any other forms of light including cell phones be kept to a minimum and use dark mode when possible. \nPlease note that this event is outside and weather dependent. Dress for possible cooler temperatures with multiple layers of clothing as temperatures can drop quickly at night. This event may be cancelled because of inclement weather which includes rain\, significant cloud cover\, or extreme temperatures. \nFor more information on the Heide Observatory at Hawthorn Hollow please click on the following link:  https://hawthornhollow.org/observatory/ \n
